Default Wiz 8 Disappearing Char. at Idol

    Hi,

I'm Playing Wiz 8 again after several years off. (Works on Windows 8.1!)

My party is picking up the idol at Marten's Bluff. I'm a control freak, and would like to lose my Fighter to Crock, since he's the most

experienced character, and can absorb the loss of experience while the team fights to get him back.

But, the AI won't take him away when we grab the idol. Even after re-starting one hundred and twenty-seven times!

Why? It takes the other five characters, in turns, but not the fighter... ever.

    1. Gender?
    2. Char's Position?
    3. Crock is scared of experienced fighters?

    Gender is male.

Char's position, as fighter, is up front.

I know I'm chiming in late, but I haven't been around lately.

Back in the day I remember reloading again and again to find out whom Crock kidnaps and whom he doesn't. I had interesting experiences.

I found that he never takes a Fighter. Just never. I also found that he doesn't like Mages, either; most of the time the ones taken were hybrids, Bards or Gadgeteers. He didn't prove averse to Bishops, either.

I've been thinking about it. Personally I doubt that the choice is actually based purely on profession. Incidentally, Fighters and Mages tend to be leagues ahead the rest in kill count, at least in that particular stage of the game. Hybrids, on the other hand, have a tendency to lag behind as they lack the raw punching power of a Fighter and the magical prowess of a specialist caster. Similarly, Bards and Gadgeteers tend to be low on kills as well due to the lack of decent instruments and gadgets that far, not to mention Bishops, who only really shine around the end of the game.

My first guess is that only characters with low kill counts are taken. This might be because the game deems them less essential, so it'd be more likely that you're able to fight your way back to Crock, to Brekek and then back again? That's not necessarily a good approach, though. And something seemingly contradicting it is that I don't remember a Priest being taken, either, and Priests are really bad in terms of killing opponents... I don't really know.

My experiences confirm that he NEVER takes a fighter. My other characters are two Bishops, two Rangers, and a Samurai. He showed no hesitation in taking any of them, at random.
